Description

71 and 71A High Street is a shop with a dwelling, dating from the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of painted brick and features stone stepped voussoirs, cills, a platband, and a keyed semicircular arch above the door. It has a slate roof with brick stacks at the gable ends and a double-depth plan. The structure stands three storeys high and has a three-window range. The wide eaves are supported by paired brackets, and the second floor has 3/6-pane sash windows, while the first floor features 6/6-pane sashes above the shop. The 20th-century shopfront is flanked by late 19th-century panelled pilasters with foliate scrolled consoles supporting a moulded fascia. To the right, there is a six-panel door topped with an ornamental semicircular fanlight. The rear of the building also has a three-window range with similar windows to the front, along with a blocked door to the left and a blocked shop window to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
