Description

No. 46 High Street is a house that has been converted into a public house. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and may have been a remodelling of an earlier structure. The building features painted Flemish-bond brickwork, with painted stone coping on the parapet, a cornice, a platband, stepped voussoirs, and cills. It has a hipped mansard roof covered with pantiles and a brick stack on the right side. The house has a deep plan and is positioned at right angles to the street, with a passageway on the right. It stands three storeys tall and has a one-window range. The cornice and platband extend to the right return, where the building steps forward from the adjacent Town Hall. The sash windows have flat arches, with 3/6 panes on the second floor and 6/6 panes on the first floor. There is also a small late 19th-century sash window above the platband on the right return. The entrance is to the right, featuring substantial moulded consoles and a moulded cornice above a modern small-paned shop window. The interior has not been inspected.
