Description
70 and 70A St Thomas Street is a house with a shop, dating from the late 18th century. It features painted header bond brickwork and a very high tile mansard roof. The building has three storeys and an attic. On the top floor, there are two 4-pane sash windows beneath a central panel, set under one raking roof. Below, on the second floor, there are three plain sashes in moulded flush boxes with rubbed voussoirs, and one deeper plain sash alongside a broad bowed oriel window that contains three plain sashes of equal width, with segmental glazing and an ovolo-mould cornice. The 20th-century shop front includes 19th-century fascia brackets and a moulded cornice that extends around the base of the oriel, with a plain door to the left. There is a plain brick band above the door and another above the first floor, featuring wide-spaced brick dentil eaves. Brick stacks are present on each gable, with the right gable being tile hung. The mansard roof is cut off to a vertical wall at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
