Description

74 St Thomas Street is a small commercial building in Weymouth, originally used as auction rooms, founded in 1823 and likely built around that time. The building is rendered, and its roof is not visible. It has two storeys and is one bay wide. A mid-19th century canted oriel window with plain sashes and a panelled skirt is positioned at the bottom of a recessed panel, which features slender Doric pilasters. The ground floor includes a full-width 20th-century shop front. Above the oriel window is a wide fielded panel, and the building is topped with a moulded cornice, blocking-course, and coped parapet. At the time of the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England survey in 1970, the building was still in its original use, though it was not in use at that time. The interior was not inspected.
