Description
WEYMOUTH
SY6779SE BOND STREET 873-1/20/29 (South side) 18/06/70 Nos.8 AND 9
GV II
Commercial building, with shop. Early to mid C19. Rendered, roof not visible. An idiosyncratic building with a 5-bay front to Bond Street, and a short return to St Thomas Street. EXTERIOR: 4 storeys; in Bond Street the top 2 floors have 12-pane over 16-pane sashes in reveals, and in sunk panels with basket-arch heads, and the lower 2 a series of bold flat Ionic pilasters which stop short of the moulded cornice. At the right end is a square pilaster, with an inset corner. The pilasters do not align with the panels above, and it seems probable that the building was raised. At first floor are 2 blind openings and 3 plain sashes, and at the ground level the pilasters have a sunk panel, with each bay containing inset pilasters to consoles and a short section of fascia with dentil cornice over 3 display windows and 2 doors with narrow side-lights and transom lights. The return frontage has plain walling with 12 over 16-pane sashes, a wide 2-light casement, and a 3-pane display window detailed as in the main front. On this front there are 2-storey flat pilasters to stepped cappings; no cornice between the pilasters. A thin moulded cornice and blocking-course; the blocking is raised as piers at the corners. INTERIOR: not inspected. (RCHME: Dorset: South-East: London: 1970-: 346).
