Description

19, 20, and 21 St Mary Street are two houses at the end of a row, featuring shops, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The buildings are rendered with slate mansard roofs and have a narrow return to Bond Street and Maiden Street with quadrant corners.

The exterior consists of three storeys and an attic, with the main front displaying six windows. There are two flat-roofed dormers above a blind light at the quadrant, a plain sash, a blind light, two plain sashes, and another blind light on the second floor. The front also features three bowed oriels with dentil cornices; two of these have plain sashes, while the third has sashes arranged in a 4:12:4 pattern.

The prominent 19th-century shop front is divided into three wide bays, with a fourth bay at the quadrant corner, all beneath a deep fascia supported by fluted consoles and pilasters. An ornate scrolled fretwork arch spans the corner, featuring a central head on pilasters and lion-head consoles, with the doors set well back. The shop front detail continues in two bays with simplified design on Bond Street, under two oriels with plain sashes and two 6-pane sashes.

On the Maiden Street side, there is a flat-roofed dormer above a central sash flanked by blind openings at each level, with a plain wall beneath the extended shop fascia. There is also a blind light on the first and second floors at the quadrant. To the left, a section is set back, featuring a high mansard roof with raked dormers, a large central ridge stack, and a smaller end stack. A small 20th-century infill unit is present on the street. The entire frontages include a second-floor sill band, a moulded cornice, a blocking-course, and a parapet. The interior has not been inspected.
