Description
22 and 23 St Mary Street are two houses in a row that include shops, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. No. 22 is constructed of painted brick, while No. 23 is rendered, both featuring slate roofs. The buildings rise three storeys with an attic. On the second floor, there are two 12-pane sashes and two plain sashes, situated above an 8:12:8-pane oriel with dentils and a canted oriel with a plain sash beneath a bold cornice. The shop front of No. 22 matches the deep fascia and pilaster design of the adjacent No. 21, whereas No. 23 features a deep 20th-century fascia over a plate-glass frontage that extends to No. 24. A simple cornice consists of a plain band supported by paired brick 'dentils', topped with a blocking course and parapet. The interior has not been inspected.
