Description

This is a house with a shop, now a restaurant, dating to approximately 1820-1850. It is located on Bond Street, Weymouth, and includes the adjoining property at No.1 Maiden Street. The building is constructed of painted brick, with brick stacks rising from the slate roof. The primary facade presents as three storeys, although a parallel-roofed section has a gabled half dormer window, creating a two-storey appearance with an attic space. The front has a single window. The ground floor features broad, panelled brick piers that flank two windows with sloping sills. A recessed double doorway is positioned between the windows, and is flanked by slender cast-iron columns, topped with an entablature. Above the ground floor is an oriel window with horned plate-glass sashes and a moulded cornice, supported by shaped wooden brackets. The half dormer window above has a horned plate-glass sash, bargeboards, and a finial to its gable. Bracketed beam ends are visible on the right-hand gable. The right-hand return has two semicircular arched ground-floor doorways, as well as two hipped, full-height canted bays to the upper floors, featuring plate-glass sashes, string courses and modillioned cornicing. The interior has not been inspected.
