Description

These shops, numbered 42, 43, and 44, are located on Walsall Market Place and date to the early 19th century. They are constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, topped with a tile roof. The west-facing facade is three stories tall and has four bays. A late 19th-century shop front extends from the middle of the third bay to the left of the facade. The right-hand bay contains a 20th-century window with a painted lintel, and further to the left is a doorway with a segmental head. The first-floor windows are sash windows with segmental brick heads, while the second-floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars; the second bay has a blind recess. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top. The roof is hipped on the left-hand side, with chimneys located to the right and between the first and second bays. The shop front continues into the first bay of the left-hand return wall, and its first and second-floor windows match those of the main facade. To the left are two further shops (numbers 42 and 43), each two bays wide. These are rendered and have 20th-century shop fronts. The shop on the left has sash windows with segmental heads. The shop on the right has sash windows, with glazing bars only in the upper sash on the first floor, which is detailed with a cornice on consoles.
