Description

No. 8 New Road is a turnpike toll house built around 1820. It is constructed of painted brick and features an overhanging hipped slate roof. The building stands two storeys tall, with its south facade facing the road showing some alterations. The ground floor has a late 20th-century shop front and door, while the first floor contains a late 20th-century window set within an earlier opening. The left-hand return wall consists of two bays, with the left bay angled back. The windows are adorned with flat brick hoods, Tudor arches, and Gothick glazing. The door, located to the left of the right-hand window, also features a Tudor arch and is ribbed with Gothick tracery at the top. A chimney is positioned on the ridge of the roof.
