Description
This is a milestone from the early 19th century, made of Ham stone. It has a trapezoid shape, measuring 500mm at the base and tapering to 200mm wide, with a thickness of 250mm and a height of 1.1 meters. The top is flat. Attached to the milestone is a cast-iron plaque that measures 365mm wide and 300mm high overall. The plaque has a shouldered and segmental top, with a double cyma-recta curve at the bottom, and it reads 'ILCHESTER/4'. This road was turnpiked by the Ilchester Trust in 1753.
