Description
Lower Farmhouse and the attached farm buildings are a detached farmhouse dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. The structure is built of Ham stone that is cut and squared, with ashlar dressings. It features a steeply pitched double Roman clay tiled roof between coped gables, likely replacing thatch, and has brick chimney stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high and consists of three bays. It has hollow-chamfered mullioned windows set in chamfered recesses, with two-light windows above and three-light windows below. The windows in the lower bays one and two share a label, while bay three has a separate label. There is a chamfered flat-arched doorway between bays two and three, which has a 20th-century boarded door. Additional mullioned windows can be found in the south gable.
Attached to the north of the farmhouse is a range of farm buildings. The first is a tall barn, likely from the 18th century, featuring a double Roman clay tiled roof. The first bay of this barn is two-storey and appears to be incorporated into the house, with small-pane casement windows. There is a blocked plain doorway with a timber lintel and a small window inserted. Bay three has nearly full-height divided doors in a heavy frame. The second building to the north is probably from the early 20th century, with a lower hipped roof, single casement windows with shutters below, and a large vehicle opening in the north gable.
