Description
Milestone. Early 19th century. Made of Ham stone, the pillar is triangular in shape with principal faces measuring 500 millimeters wide and a back that is 300 millimeters wide, topped with a rounded finish. The pillar stands approximately 850 millimeters high. It features cast iron plaques that span the full width of the pillar and are 100 millimeters deep, also with rounded drops. The east side of the milestone reads "ILMINSTER/3" and the west side reads "CREWKERNE/4". This road was turnpiked in 1759 and was maintained by the Ilminster Trust from 1759 to 1879.
