Description

This milestone, located on the south side of West Street in Stoke sub Hamdon, is an early 19th-century structure made of Ham stone. It has a triangular shape, measuring about 475 mm wide on the principal faces and 350 mm wide at the back, with a height of approximately 850 mm and a slightly curved top. The milestone features two cast iron plaques: one on the west side reads "YEOVIL 6 and a half," while the east side displays "ILMINSTER 7." The plaques measure 420 mm and 360 mm long, and 100 mm deep, with a curved drop underneath. This road was part of the original routes managed by the Ilminster Trust, which was established in 1759 and turned into a toll road that same year.
