Description
This milestone, located about 10 metres east of the gateway to Greenways, is an early 19th-century structure made of Ham stone. It features a triangular pillar that measures approximately 450mm wide on the main faces and 300mm wide at the back, standing about 700mm high with a roughly rounded top. Attached to the pillar is a cast iron plaque that measures about 350mm wide and 100mm deep, with a curved drop underneath. The plaque on the west side reads 'YEOVIL/5 and a half' and the one on the east side reads 'ILMINSTER/8'. This road was one of the original routes managed by the spinster Trust, established in 1759, and it was turnpiked in that same year.
