Description

This is a 19th-century milestone located in Chilthorne Domer. It is made of Ham stone and features a cast iron plaque. The pillar measures approximately 450 mm wide, 250 mm thick, and 500 mm high, with a triangular top. The plaque is 360 mm wide and 420 mm deep, featuring a smouldered segmental top and a double ogee curve at the base. The inscription reads: '/ILCHESTER on curve)/1/YEOVIL/4". This road was maintained by the Ilchester Trust and was turpiked in 1753.
