Description

This milestone, located on the A303, is likely from the early 19th century. It is made of Ham stone and features a cast iron plaque. The pillar has a trapezoidal shape, measuring 800mm to 460mm in width and 150mm in thickness, with a height of 850mm. The plaque is set on the wider face of the pillar and reads "Castle Cary 6 ½ , Ilchester 4". The road was managed by the Ilchester Trust from 1753 to 1874.
