Description
This milestone, likely from the 19th century and modified, is made of concrete and features two cast iron plaques. The pillar has a trapezoidal shape, measuring 600mm at the base and tapering to 200mm at the top, with a thickness of 300mm. The plaques are mounted on the angled sides of the pillar, each measuring about 350mm wide and 300mm high. The tops of the plaques are shouldered and segmental, while the bottoms have a double cyma-recta curve. The plaque on the west side reads 'Ilchester 5', and the one on the east side reads 'Ilminster 7'. This road was turnpiked by the Ilchester Trust in 1753.
