Description
Hunters Lodge is a semi-detached cottage located on Higher Street, dating from the 17th century. It is constructed from ham stone rubble with ashlar dressings and features a double Roman clay tile roof with a coped east gable and brick chimney stacks. The building stands two storeys high and has four bays, with a slight break back after the second bay. The windows in the first three bays are hollow-chamfered mullioned windows; bay one has a three-light window with labels, bay two has a two-light window with a label on the upper window, bay three has a three-light window with a label above, and bay four features timber casements. The entrance, which may have originally been in bay two, is now located at the rear. The east wall is currently being rebuilt as of June 1985. Although the interior has not been seen, it is reported to include a nine-panel framed ceiling in the hall, deep chamfer unstopped beams, a cambered arched fireplace, and a stone newel staircase. Attached to the west is Hunters Lodge Cottage, which has been significantly altered and is no longer considered of special interest.
