Description
This milestone, located at Broadway Hill in Horton, is likely from the early 19th century. It is made of Ham stone and features cast iron plates. The pillar has a trapezoidal shape, measuring 90 millimeters at the front, about 450 millimeters on the sides, and about 225 millimeters at the back, standing approximately 700 millimeters high with a flat top. On the east side, there is a T-shaped plate without borders that reads "HONITON/13 1/2". On the west side, there is a bordered plate with a double curve shape that reads "ILMINSTER/3". This section of the road was built by the Honiton and Ilminster Trust under an 1807 Act and was transferred to the Ilminster Trust in 1829. The different types of plates may indicate the joint efforts of the two Trusts.
