HORTON CP BROADWAY HILL ST31SW 4/51 Milestone at NGR ST 3175 1470

Milestone. Probably early C19. Ham stone pillar, cast iron plates. Trapezoid plan pillar, front 90 mm, sides about 450mm, back about 225 mm, the pillar about 700 mm high, with flat top. On east side a T-shaped plate without bordersreads:- "HONITON/13 1/2"; on west side a plate with borders and double curve shape drop reads:- "ILMINSTER/3" This section of the road built by the Honiton and Ilminster Trust under an 1807 Act, and transferred to the Ilminster Trust in 1829 - the two types of plate may signify the joint action of the two Trusts. (Bentley and Murless, Somerset Roads, SIAS, 1985).
