Description

This milestone, likely from the early 19th century, is made of Ham stone and features cast-iron plaques. The triangular pillar measures 480 mm on the sides, 340 mm on the rear, and stands 950 mm tall with a rounded top. The plaques are 200 mm deep overall and display figures in a central drop. The east plaque, which is 340 mm wide, reads "CHARD/4," while the west plaque, measuring 420 mm wide, reads "ILMINSTER/1." This road was turnpiked by the Ilminster Turnpike Trust in 1759.
