Description
No. 5, formerly known as Cross Farm, is a farmhouse now used as a house, located on Cross Lane in Ilminster. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century and is constructed of limestone rubble with a thatched roof. The building has a T-shaped plan and stands two storeys tall with a three-window range. The north front, which forms the bar of the T, features a half-hipped gable with chimneys positioned at the ridge angle and the center of the ridge on the right. The front gable is asymmetrical, extending to first-floor level on the left and ground-floor level on the right. The windows are all from the 20th century, featuring Ham Hill stone lintels, with most being three-light leaded casements, and two of the ground-floor windows are two-light. The interior has not been inspected. Additionally, there are attached walls and railings that enclose the forecourt; the railings are from the late 19th century and have looped tops alternating with plain bars.
