Description
Cuttapit Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the early 17th century, with a cross wing added in the mid-17th century. It has been altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed of rubble stone and cob, and it is rendered. The roof is slate with gabled ends, featuring a higher ridge and steeper pitch on the earlier section. There is a rendered stone lateral stack on the south side, which has been rebuilt at the top in rendered brick, accompanied by a porch roof to the left.
The plan of the farmhouse has been significantly altered and is now T-shaped, consisting of the earlier hall with the lateral stack and the later cross wing to the west. The cross passage at the junction has been blocked. The west side of the cross wing serves as the main front and has two storeys with an asymmetrical five-window arrangement. On the ground floor, there are two 2-light 20th-century timber casements with glazing bars, flanking a near-central 20th-century glazed door. The first floor features five square top hung 20th-century windows.
The interior has also been much altered. The roof over the cross wing includes chamfered cambered collars with face pegged trenched purlins, while the roof timbers over the earlier part are not accessible. The ground slopes down to the west, with the west wing set at a slightly lower level and having a lower roof.
