Description
Lower Turnant is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan with a cross-wing at the west end, facing south. There is an axial stack that backs onto a through-passage in the main range. The cross-wing has two storeys, while the rest of the house is single storey with an attic.
On the south front, the gable end of the cross-wing is to the left, featuring a 20th-century window on the upper floor and a 2-light casement window on the ground floor. The main range has a single storey with an attic, which includes a 2-light casement window in a half-dormer. To the right of the doorway, there are 3-light casement windows flanking a wooden frame door with ledges.
Inside, the house is said to retain a doorway with a segmental head and stop-chamfered doorposts. There is also evidence suggesting that the house may have originally been timber-framed, as fragments of square panelled framing can be seen in the east wall of the cross-wing.
