Description

Great Turnant is a farmhouse that has its origins in the late 15th or early 16th century, with remodelling from the 17th century and slight alterations made during the 20th century. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a combination of stone slate and corrugated metal roofs. The building has an irregular plan, with the earlier section aligned east to west and a later addition forming a cross-wing at the west end, along with another addition on the north side. The earlier section has a north lateral stack, while the later cross-wing has gable-end stacks. The entrance features a porch that projects eastward from the south angle of the cross-wing.

The south front displays the gable end of the cross-wing to the left, which has two 2-light windows. There is a square-headed opening and a narrow loop leading to the porch, along with a 4-centred arched-headed doorway with chamfered jambs. To the right of the porch, there is a 3-light window and three irregularly spaced doorways in the earlier section. Inside, one visible cruck truss from the earlier section can be seen, along with traces of a former stone winder staircase against the north stack.
