Description

The Old Greyhound is a former inn that has been converted into a house. It dates back to the 16th century, with extensions added to the north in the late 17th or early 18th century, and further alterations made in the mid-19th century and 20th century. The original section is timber-framed with wattle-and-daub infill and features a stone slate roof, while the later section is made of rendered sandstone rubble with a 20th-century tiled roof.

The building consists of two framed bays aligned north to south, with a gable-end stack at the south and an entrance on the east front to the right. A large rectangular plan of the later section adjoins to the north and projects forward to the east, featuring a central entrance and gable-end stacks, with a later addition at the angle of the earlier house.

It is two storeys high. On the east front, the timber-framed section on the left has one casement window with decorative glazing and a ledged door to the right. The framing includes an upper overhanging floor supported by chamfered joists, with vertical studs arranged in a herringbone pattern. There is a 3-light casement window to the right of the timber-framed section, while the later house to the right has three plain sash windows and a lean-to porch with a panelled door. The interior of the earlier house retains fine chamfered ceiling beams, although the later section has not been inspected.
