Description
Middle Ponthendre is a 17th-century farmhouse that was extended during the 18th or early 19th century, with 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed from sandstone rubble with a Welsh slate roof. It has a rectangular plan aligned north/south, facing east. The earlier section has a higher roof pitch than the later addition to the south. A gable-end stack is located on the south gable of both the original house and the later addition. The east front of the main house showcases two 2-light 20th-century windows and a single light at mezzanine level, illuminating the staircase. To the left is a later addition with two 2-light casement windows and a 2-light 20th-century window at ground floor, alongside a lean-to porch with a ledged inner door. Traces of 2- and 3-light diamond mullioned windows with wooden frames are visible on the rear and north gable-end of the original section. Inside the earlier part of the house, plank-and-muntin panelled partitions are preserved on the lower floor, together with a stone winder staircase positioned against the stack.
