Description
Tanhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with extensions made during the late 17th century or early 18th century, and some alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed from rendered sandstone rubble and has a Welsh slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan that runs north to south, featuring a west projecting porch and additional later extensions to the west and north. The southern part of the house is currently used as a barn.
The west front has a two-storey gabled porch, which includes a two-light window and a wooden framed doorway. To the left of the porch, there is a small two-light window and a large three-light window, both from the 20th century. A later lean-to extension is situated to the right of the porch, along with the barn's draught doors. Although the interior has not been inspected, the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England notes the possible presence of timber-framed walls that have been later encased with stone.
