Description
Brass Knoll Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century or early 17th century, with a 20th-century addition that likely replaced an earlier wing. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features stone slate and Welsh slate roofs. The building has a rectangular plan, with the earlier main house oriented north-west to south-east, featuring a south-east gable-end stack and a projecting stair turret on the north-east side. The later addition is attached to the south-west.
The north-west front displays the gable end of the earlier house on the left, which has a wooden 4-light diamond mullioned window in the attic, along with one 2-light and one 3-light 20th-century window on the first floor, and a similar 3-light window on the ground floor to the right. There is a section of stonework and an upper lintel extending from the first floor that suggests the position of the garderobe. Additional diamond mullioned windows can be found on the south-east gable end. The single-storey addition to the right features a doorway and a 3-light casement window, with the doorway likely marking the position of a former through-passage.
Inside, the farmhouse is largely intact, showcasing three plank-and-muntin panelled screens on the lower floor and two on the upper floor, complete with original doorways. The interior also features good chamfered ceiling beams throughout and a large stone winder staircase.
