Description
The Church of St Peter is a parish church with a 14th century core that was significantly remodeled in the 19th century and extended to the west in 1912. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and has a stone slate roof. The church features a nave and chancel, along with a south porch and a south vestry, and includes a west bellcote. The nave and chancel consist of six bays. On the south front, there is an early 20th century trefoiled ogee-headed light to the right of the 20th century gabled porch, and the gable end of the vestry further to the right has a similar trefoiled ogee-headed light at the chancel end. There is a part continuous stone bench along the south front between the porch and the vestry, extending from the vestry to the east end. Inside, the church has 19th or early 20th century arch braced collar-beam trusses with decorative struts above the collar. Set into the south wall of the nave are two panels featuring elementary carvings of a crucifix and lettering, which are ascribed to the 11th century.
