Description
Colwood Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with a mid-19th century extension at the rear. The building has been re-fenestrated in the early 19th century and is constructed of rubble stone with large stone quoins. It features an asbestos slate roof with gable ends, and has a large stone stack on the right-hand gable end, as well as a large projecting stone stack on the left-hand gable end. The chimneys are topped with brick shafts that taper above the stone bases and include drip courses.
Originally, the farmhouse consisted of two rooms with a cross passage and a dairy at the rear, forming an L-shaped plan. A kitchen was added in the angle around the mid-19th century. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an almost symmetrical three-window east front. The ground floor includes two double 12-pane sash windows flanking a central 19th-century panelled door, which is partly glazed and has a slate hipped hood above it. To the right of the door is a wood sash window, and above are three 16-pane sash windows without horns. All windows have crown glass and feature rendered lintels and large granite jambstones. The left-hand room (on the south) has chamfered ceiling beams with slight run-out stops. The upper floors have not been inspected.
