6/11 Couch Mill

GV II

Mill and mill house, late C18, remodelled in mid C19. Rendered rubble stone and cob with steeply pitched rag slate roof and brick chimneys at gabled ends of mill house. Projecting stack on left hand gable end. Shallower, slate roof with gabled ends to unrendered mill adjoining on right. Mill house; single depth, 2-room with cross passage plan. C19 extension to rear. Almost symmetrical 3-window front. Two 2-light C20 timber casements with glazing bars flanking partly glazed door with gabled porch on timber posts. 3- gabled half dormers with 2-light timber casement windows and wavy bargeboards. Mill; long 1½ storey building under slightly lower pitched roof with central wide timber stable door and reused timber lintel over. Slate porch. Small single pane window to left. Above, slightly to left, gabled half dormer window with 9- pane fixed casement. Lean-to of stone and brick under corrugated roof to right. Machinery includes 2 horizontal gearing systems preserved in cog pit. 2 millstones in-situ and sack hoist. 2 overshot waterwheels have been dismantled.
