Description

Lower Mill is a mill and mill house dating from the early 19th century, with written evidence dating back to 1835. The mill house is likely from the later 19th century. It features stone rubble walls and slate hung on the side of the mill, topped by a gable-ended slate roof. The mill has a one-room plan across three storeys, with the house adjoining it at right angles.

The exterior of the mill is three storeys tall and includes a gable end entrance with a stable-type 19th-century door, sheltered by a large canopy porch that spans the width of the gable end. On the left side, which borders the stream, there are three windows fitted with 20th-century casements. The water wheel, which was previously located on the rear wall of the mill, has been removed. On the right side, the mill is built into higher ground, featuring a doorway that leads to the first floor. The house, which is attached to the front gable end of the mill on the right, has a two-window front with 20th-century casements and brick arches above.

Inside, some of the mill's original mechanisms remain, including the central shaft and the millstones.
