Description
Leawood Mill is a mill and mill house dating from around the mid-19th century. It features local stone rubble walls and a gable-ended slate roof. The building has two rubble stacks, one located axially between the house and the mill, and the other at the gable end of the mill building. The structure has an L-shaped plan, with the house projecting to the front and the mill building extending to the right, where its wheel was originally located on the rear wall.
The house is two storeys high with an attic and has a double-depth layout, likely consisting of two original rooms. The entrance is at the gable end, leading into a small lobby. The front of the house has a regular arrangement of two windows, featuring 19th-century small-paned casements. On the ground floor to the left, there is a 20th-century part-glazed door. A blocked second-floor window is positioned at the centre of the gable, and all openings are topped with granite lintels.
On the inner face of the mill, there is a door to the left, accompanied by a window to its right and a three-light 19th-century casement window above. The rear elevation of the mill only retains the axle of the mill wheel. Inside, some of the stone drive machinery remains, with wooden edges to the wheels. Two grinding stones are preserved, with one reportedly used for grinding corn and the other for animal feed.
