Description
Milestone, probably early 19th century. It is a painted Ham stone pillar with cast-iron plaques. The pillar measures about 360 millimeters wide, 200 millimeters thick, and 800 millimeters high, featuring a rounded top and a chamfered back. The two plaques include a top one with a very deep numeral drop, measuring about 360 millimeters wide and 310 millimeters deep, which reads "ILMINSTER/2". The lower plaque is about 350 millimeters wide and 200 millimeters deep, reading "HONITON/14 1/2". There is an Ordnance Survey benchmark at the top on the rear face. This road was constructed by the Honiton and Ilminster Trust under an 1807 Act and was transferred to the Ilminster Trust in 1829.
