Description
The gates, gatepiers, and railings at Jordans' Park date from the early 19th century. They are made of Ham stone and cast and wrought iron.
The entrance features a pair of wrought-iron gates that are elaborately decorated with open scrollwork. These gates hang from cast-iron openwork box piers, which are similarly adorned. The piers are topped with scrolled cresting and urn finials. Flanking the gates are cast-iron spearhead railings with dog bars, along with a pedestrian gate in the southern section.
The two square Ham stone gatepiers have moulded plinths and banded rustication that is pecked with rosettes and other decorative motifs. They also feature a frieze with swags and ribbons in relief, and are capped with moulded, pyramidal coping stones. Curved lengths of lower spearhead railings are attached to the outer face of the gatepiers, terminating at low openwork box piers that also have scrolled cresting and urn finials.
