Description
Shrubbery Farm Cottage is an early 19th-century cottage ornee located in Ashill. It is constructed of ham stone rubble and features a hipped thatched roof with an octagonal central base for two brick chimney stacks set diagonally. The cottage is single-storey with an attic and has a segmental-bowed south elevation consisting of three bays. The roof has a wide overhang, supported by rustic poles, with gables above the windows and doorways. The ground floor windows are two-light, triangular-headed with 'Y'-tracery and diamond-leaded panes with margins. The central doorway is triangular-headed and features a boarded door with 'Y'-traceried cover strips. On either side of the doorway, in the valleys between the window gables, are two dormer windows with leaded casements. There are also latching single windows on the side elevations. A 20th-century brick extension with a hipped Welsh slate roof has been added to the rear. The interior has not been seen. This cottage was formerly part of the estate known as Jordans, which had a house that was demolished in the 1960s.
