Description
Puddlebridge Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from 1725. It is constructed of large Ham stone, cut and squared, with ashlar dressings. The north gable was rebuilt using red brickwork from two periods, and the roof is thatched, with a coped west gable, hipped corner, and a plain overhang to the north gable. Brick chimney stacks are present. The farmhouse is L-shaped, with two storeys and four bays, one of which is a projecting wing. It has a plinth and hollow-chamfered mullioned windows set in chamfered recesses. Most windows are three-light, except for a two-light window in the upper bay two; the lower windows have labels, and the lower bay three features a five-panel door in a heavy frame under a timber lintol, with the top panel glazed. Twentieth-century windows are present, along with a 1725 date plaque above the west gable. A lean-to extension is located at the rear. The interior is reported to contain chamfered beams with various end-stop details, including stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops; a large kitchen fireplace with an attached brick-lined oven; and a dog-leg staircase with a shaped handrail and turned balusters. The roof structure includes tie-beam trusses. It is suggested that the north wing and staircase are later 18th-century additions.
