Description

Southfields is a detached house built in the 18th century, and possibly remodelled in the 19th century. It is constructed of local stone, rendered and with painted ashlar dressings, featuring a Welsh slate roof with stepped coped gables and rendered brick chimney stacks. The house follows a T-plan with two storeys and five bays. It has a plinth and a band course between the floors. Pilasters with Tuscan capitals are located between bays two and three, and on the corners. The windows are 12-pane sashes set in architraves; the upper window of bay three has a reeded surround with a semi-circular arched head, a keystone, and impost blocks. The lower bay three features a six-panel door with a semi-circular fanlight above, incorporating trefoil and radial glazing, all set within a stone surround with attached fluted Tuscan columns supporting an open pediment. Matching pilasters are present on the west gable. A long extension to the north-east corner, of a later date, is not of particular interest and is excluded from the listing. The interior remains unexamined.
