Description

Rose Mills is an industrial building from the early 19th century. It is constructed of ham stone rubble with ashlar quoins and features a double Roman clay tiled roof with bargeboarded gables and a brick chimney stack. The original section of the building has three storeys and consists of six bays. It has metal windows set in segmental arched openings, which are adorned with stone voussoirs and keystones. The doors located in the lower bay 3, upper bays 4 and 5, and top bays 2 and 4 on the north-east elevation are all part-glazed and situated in segmental arched openings, accessed by cast-iron approach stairs. The openings for all lower bays and the first-floor bay 6 on this side have been blocked.

There is a slightly lower extension to the south-east, which is two storeys tall and has nine bays. This extension is made of later 19th-century brick and features lined openings with casement windows and a brick porch at bay 7. There is also a doorway to upper bay 3 that includes an external iron staircase. The south-west elevation is similar but partially obscured by later buildings that are not of special interest. The interiors are not accessible. The premises were previously occupied by the Chard Lace Company, and the mill pond has since been filled in.
