Description
Court Farmhouse is a 17th-century house located at the end of a row on Great Street in Norton Sub Hamdon. The building is constructed from Ham stone ashlar and features a thatched roof with coped gables and stone chimney stacks. It has a 'T'-plan layout, is two storeys high, and consists of five bays. The windows are hollow-chamfered mullioned types set in chamfered recesses, with continuous labels above both levels. The lower label steps up over the doorway. Most windows are three-light, except for the first bay, which is blank above and has a two-light window below. All windows are rectangular-leaded with iron-framed opening lights. The fourth bay on the lower level has a moulded flat-arched doorway with a 20th-century door. There are 20th-century windows in the west gable and at the rear. The interior has been significantly altered, with little early work visible. It features a timber-framed partition with a dado in the hall and some deep chamfered beams with plain runouts. The west gable has been rebuilt, and the fireplace and chimney have been removed, as has much of the rear gable of the extension. Approximately 4 metres north of the house, there are iron hoop railings set on a low stone wall, with a gateway opposite the door, which enhances the setting of the house.
