WINSHAM CP CHURCH STREET (West side) ST30NE 4/96 Milestone in east wall of churchyard, about 4m south of lych gate, Church of St Stephen -
GV II
Milestone. Probably C19. Painted Ham stone about 300mm wide x 750mm high, with rounded top, set flush into wall; stone inscribed 'Chard/4'. This road, from Chard to Greenham in Dorset, was turnpiked by the Chard Trust in 1829. (Bentley J.B and Murless B.J, Somerset Roads, SIAS, 1985)
