Description
Ford Cottage is a cottage dating from the 16th to 17th century, with a later enlargement in the 20th century. The building is rendered over random rubble and features a thatched roof, which is half hipped on the 20th-century addition, and brick stacks at the gable ends. It was likely originally a single cell structure oriented East-West, with an expansion to the North and a lower 20th-century addition beyond.
The east front of the cottage has one and a half storeys and is divided into three bays. The gabled end features two-light 20th-century casement windows on the left, while the first floor has moulded lancet windows on the right return, which originally lit the stairway. Below, there is a 20th-century two-light casement window, and to the right, a three-light dormer casement window, with a three-light casement window below it. The independently roofed lower addition has a three-light casement window, and the entrance is located on the right return with a 20th-century door. The original entrance, which faced the fireplace, has been converted into a window.
Inside, the cottage features chamfered beams with step and run-out stops, and open fireplaces with chamfered lintels, which incorporate large sandstone slabs that may have been reset. The fireplace in the inner room is marked with random crosses.
