Description

  1. 5365 MANTLE STREET (North Side) No 1 (Old Court) ST 1320 1/39 25.1.51. II* GV 2. Set back from the road. C16 seat of the Pophams stood here, but was much damaged in the Civil War. Along the back of the house are 3 rooms with coved ceilings, evidently part of an ancient structure, also 3 old stone chimneys. Front of house was added early C19. This is 2 storey 4 window roughcast, the centre being higher and having modillion cornice to parapet. Glass conservatory across front with Gothic glazing bars. Vases at corners. Roof has wrought iron bell turret. Internally one of the older rooms has interesting early C19 plasterwork and Gothic woodwork detail.

No 1; gatepiers gates and railings at No 1; former coach house and garden wall at No 1 and No 3 form a group with No 41 Fore Street.
