Description
The former coach house on Mantle Street is a two-storey rubble building, partly repaired in red brick, likely dating from the early 19th century. It has a gable end facing the street and features a slate roof with a wooden finial at the apex. There is a blocked oculus below the roof, and the first floor has a modern window. The ground floor retains a blocked segmental brick carriage arch with a keystone. The entryway is mostly filled in with a later wooden lintel that supports a semi-circular window head with intersecting glazing bars. Below this, there are double wooden doors and a modern door to the left. The side elevation facing the house has been altered but still shows a pointed doorway at the first floor level. The garden wall extends back to join the corner of the house and includes a 16th-century archway made of Ham Hill stone with carved spandrels. The former coach house and garden wall, along with No 1 and No 3, contribute to a group with No 41 Fore Street.
