Description
No. 4 Mantle Street is a two-storey building from the 18th century, featuring a painted ashlar facade with chamfered rustication. It has a moulded gutter cornice and a slate roof, with a red brick chimney stack positioned forward from the ridge on the right side. The first floor has two windows with stepped voussoir lintels, and these are sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floor includes three-light splayed bays that have wrought-iron balconettes. There is a central doorway with impost string courses leading to a four-panel door, which is accessed by two steps.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos. 2 to 6 (even), the United Reformed Church on Fore Street, and various features such as lamp standards, railings, steps, and walls associated with the church, as well as the Three Cups Hotel and No. 34 Fore Street.
