Description

This milestone, located on the roadside at the National Grid Reference ST 6548 4540, dates from the 18th century. It is made of dressed stone and features a cast-iron plate. The stone pier has an incised inscription that reads "FROME 8. WELLS 7." This milestone is part of the former Frome Turnpike Trust, which was significant in the development of infrastructure during the Industrial Revolution in Somerset, as noted by Bryan Morland in 1982.
