Description

This is a milestone located on the roadside at Chelynch Road in Doulting, dating from the early 19th century. It is made of Doulting Limestone and features a curved head. On its north face, there is a white cast iron plaque with black lettering, which is attached with two iron nails. The inscription reads 'Shepton/Mallet/3/Miles'. The milestone appears to be in its original position and, along with other milestones in the parish, serves as an important indicator of 19th-century road use. It is included for its group value.
