Description

This milestone, located at NGR ST 5098 2562, is likely from the early 19th century. It is made of Ham stone and features a cast iron plaque. The stone measures approximately 375 mm wide, 150 mm thick, and 700 mm high, with a moulded top. The plaque is about 370 mm wide and 130 mm high, with a semi-circular top and bottom measuring 150 mm in diameter. The inscription reads: "6/LANGPORT/ILCHESTER/2 1/4". This road was part of the Langport, Somerton, and Castle Cary Trust and was turnpiked in 1792. The stone also marks the boundary between the parishes of Kingsdon and Somerton.
