Description
This is a milestone located in Compton Pauncefoot, likely dating from the early 19th century. It is made of Doulting stone and features a cast iron plaque. The stone measures approximately 500 mm wide, 300 mm thick, and 1 meter high, with a roughly rounded top. The stone appears to have been reused, as the inscription "26 Bath" is still visible beneath the plaque. The plaque itself measures 450 mm by 50 mm and includes roundels with a diameter of 150 mm at the top and bottom, along with the road names "7/Sherborne/Ansford/4 3/4". This road was turnpiked in 1753 and is maintained by the Shaftesbury and Sherborne Trust.
