Description

COMPTON PAUNCEFOOT CP ST62NE 5/32 Milestone at NGR ST 6591 2682 - - II Milestone. Probably early C19. Doulting stone with cast iron plaque. Stone about 500 mm x 300 mm thick x 1 m high, roughly rounded top: stone apparently reused as "26 Bath" is still legible under plaque, which is 450mm x 5O mm with 150 mm diameter roundels top and bottom, and roads "7/Sherborne/Ansford/4 3/4". This road turnpiked in 1753, and maintained by the Shaftesbury and Sherborne Trust.
